I am a Mental Health Advocate, because my brother Nathaniel inspires me. You may know a little about him through a book and movie entitled “The Soloist,” that came out in 2009. I have had the honor and privilege to speak many places to share the story of my brother and our family’s experiences as we watched him go from an aspiring classical musician to a person who will always be musically gifted, only now he has an illness called “schizophrenia.” Honestly, it did change him, however I had to learn to change MY behavior to be more relatable to him and STOP trying to make him be who I thought he should be. He was already occupying that space.
